President Zelaya Intends to Return to Honduras by September 1
Late yesterday, Cholusat Sur TV featured an interview with Beatriz Valle, President Zelaya’s deputy foreign minister in which she announced that the president will be returning to Honduras before September 1. A short Telesur article covers Valle’s statement and here is a Venezolano de Television article as well.
In addition, Cholusat Sur TV broke a story that is still confusing, but here is what I gathered and when I get something definitive I’ll update this post. Supposedly, attorneys for President Zelaya made some sort of an appeal based on unconstitutional grounds to the Honduran Supreme Court of Justice and the Court agreed to review the appeal. The problem is, I have no idea what was being appealed but assume it must have to do with the ballot box drama, Zelaya’s overthrow, or his brief involuntary vacation in Costa Rica. I also assume that whatever happened with the Supreme Court may have played into his intention to return before September 1.
Obviously, if anyone knows about the court issues, please comment on the blog.
