Honduras Resistance Goes On

Tegucigalpa, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) The popular resistance against
the coup d’etat entered on Tuesday its day 52, with marches in the
capital and activities to raise awareness in neighborhoods, the
movement’s leaders stated.

Indigenous leader Berta Caceres, from the National Front against the
coup d’Etat, said they would give dtails of those rallies at the
demonstration sites, due to security reasons.

Juan Barahona, general coordinator of the Front and president of the
United Federation of Honduran Workers (FUTH), asserted that the
National Pedagogical University is the point where opponents would
rally.

FUTH general secretary Israel Salinas said the Front leadership would
decide today’s actions on the spot, in an effort to hamper
repressive actions.

Wednesday’s agenda will include a huge caravan of vehicles in this
capital, from bicycles to heavy trucks.

The alliance of people’s organizations held a national assembly on
Sunday to analyze struggle strategies, although it only announced a
great concert on August 22.
